valentine's day perler beads

What do you remember doing for Valentine’s Day as a child? For me, it involved two main things: making crafts and handing out valentines. By “valentines,” I mean the cards you distribute in the classroom.

And perhaps you were the same, but I had a very thoughtful selection process.

It was important to match each valentine with the right recipient! Naturally, I wanted my closest friends to receive the sweetest ones. Cards about best friends or being “bananas about you” were reserved for them.

My other classmates received the “you’re so cool” and “you’re a great catch” cards. They had slightly less serious messages than the best-friend valentines, while still being playful and fun.

And then there were the boys.

Even at nine, I didn’t want to send a boy the wrong message. I wasn’t interested in making any long-term promises . . . I simply wanted something to place in their decorated shoebox for the holiday. So, I kept the most simple and neutral valentines for them.

Did anyone else put this much complicated thought into handing out their valentines?? Or was I the only one?

Being young and knowing very little about love can make Valentine’s Day feel complicated. Fortunately, the holiday crafts are easy—and genuinely enjoyable. Today, I’m sharing Valentine’s Day perler bead ideas that children will adore!

Let’s be real—the grown-ups will enjoy these designs just as much. If perler beads are new to you, you’ll find them wonderfully calming and entertaining. They’re also far less untidy than something like paint. That makes them ideal for Valentine’s Day!

Perler beads are suitable for children ages six and older, making this a delightful project to enjoy with elementary-aged kids. If you’re ready to work with perler beads—also called hama beads, fuse beads, or melty beads—you’ll have a great time exploring this pattern collection.

Here are a few helpful details to keep in mind:

  • Several designs are bigger than a 29 x 29 pegboard, so you’ll need either anextra large pegboard(49 x 69 tall) or multiple square pegboards joined together to create a larger “canvas.”
  • A number of these designs require either heart pegboards or hexagon pegboards, both of which are useful additions to your general crafting supplies.
  • You may notice that some pattern backgrounds below are not white. They are only colored to create contrast and make the placement of the white beads easier to see. Adding the background is optional.
