There are countless enjoyable painting projects you can create with a cardboard roll. These toilet paper roll fireworks are among our favorites!

Just a handful of materials are required to create these toilet paper roll fireworks! Even better, recycled toilet paper tubes or kitchen paper towel rolls can be used (simply trim them to the right length).

Materials for Creating Fireworks with Paper Rolls
Toilet Paper Tubes or Kitchen Towel Rolls
Paint – choose washable paint for easy, mess-free cleanup or acrylic paint when you prefer a heavier coating
Paper – we suggest either 12×12 size for accommodating the fireworks or white easel paper
Optional – glitter (you could also choose biodegradable glitter)

Making Toilet Paper Roll Fireworks
1. Begin by snipping slits around one end of the paper roll.
Your fireworks will be larger when you cut longer slits.
For added detail, narrower slits tend to work best.
2. Pour paint into a dish or paper plate, then let children dip the paper rolls into it.
Coat the entire paper roll, including every slit, with paint. It may take several stamps to cover everything.
3. Children can then press the painted paper roll onto paper to create their fireworks!
We suggest choosing a bigger sheet of paper (such as 12×12) or easel paper that can be rolled out. Since the firework stamps may be quite large, this provides extra room for making the designs.
4. Continue stamping until your fireworks look the way you want! Children can press once or several times to create varied patterns.
We chose blue and red, though you can pick any shades you like!
5. To include glitter (refer above for a biodegradable glitter choice), sprinkle it over the paint while it remains wet.
As the paint dries, the glitter will naturally adhere to its surface.
Another option is to wait for the paint to dry, apply some glue, and then scatter glitter over the glue.
6. Remove any extra glitter by shaking it off, and keep it for a future craft.
Your paper roll fireworks are complete! Use this craft to adorn a paper tablecloth for the 4th of July, decorate wrapping paper, or simply enjoy it as a creative painting activity!
