Create a Valentine’s Day Handprint Tree Craft

To create our Sponge Heart Handprint Tree, gather cardstock in brown and any background shade you prefer, acrylic paint in red, pink, and white, along with a sponge, scissors, and a glue stick.

Supplies for the Handprint Heart Tree Craft

  • Cardstock – brown, grey (or any background color you prefer)
  • Acrylic paint – red, pink, white
  • Sponge
  • Black sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

Step-by-Step Directions for the Sponge Heart Tree

Start by positioning the cardstock horizontally.

On the brown cardstock, trace the child’s hand and continue beyond the wrist.

Carefully cut out the handprint.

Attach the handprint to the background cardstock of your choice using glue. We chose light grey for the background so the hearts would stand out.

Next, draw 3 hearts onto a regular sponge with a black sharpie. Make each one a different size and shape if possible.

Cut the heart shapes out.

Then, place some paint on a flat surface. We used a paper plate. Pick up a heart, dip it into the paint, and coat the entire sponge. For the red hearts, we used our biggest heart-shaped sponge.

Press the heart onto the cardstock around the handprint.

Add several more red hearts.

Then include some pink ones.

Don’t forget the white hearts, too.

We also stamped a few hearts near the bottom of the page. Personalize your tree however you like. Keep adding your own touches until it feels perfect and filled with love.
