Take a cardboard tube from the recycling container or your craft space (in our home, cardboard tubes head straight to the craft area) and transform it into a panda craft. Pandas are charming creatures, and even though they are large, they appear wonderfully snuggly.
This cardboard tube panda family makes a lovely addition to our collection of ZOO animal projects. Up to now, we have made cardboard tube zebras and giraffes, and we hope to create more in the weeks ahead. Since we crafted zebra and giraffe families, we decided to make a panda family as well.
Each panda in our family received a bamboo shoot to hold. The smallest panda even has a leaf between its teeth. Isn’t it absolutely sweet?
Recycled projects are always enjoyable, and with Earth Day only a few days away, this seems like an excellent activity for children. It is simple and does not call for any special equipment. All you really need is a cardboard tube, paper, paint and a black marker.
Preschool children can work on their scissor skills, while kindergartners should be capable of completing this project without adult assistance.

HOW TO MAKE A PAPER ROLL panda CRAFT
First, coat the cardboard tube with white paint, then leave it aside until it has dried fully.
Trace a circle on white paper using a round cup or plastic container. Add two ears connected to the circle, then sketch the eyes, eye patches, nose and mouth.
With the black marker, fill in the ears, eye patches and nose, and trace the mouth.
Attach the head with glue to the upper part of the cardboard tube.
Snip a lengthy strip from brown paper and several leaves from green paper. Add a few marks to the brown strip, then glue the leaves onto it.
Secure the bamboo shoot with glue at the center of the cardboard tube
Using a pencil and ruler, draw a rectangle measuring 2″ long on black paper. Sketch a semicircle along one end and cut out the shape. Use it as a template to create 3 additional paws from black paper.
Glue the paws in pairs: place two on the upper section of the cardboard tube beneath the head, and attach the other two at the bottom.

Instructions

- First, paint the cardboard tube white and place it aside to dry thoroughly.
- Trace a circle onto white paper with a round cup or plastic container. Add two ears to the circle, followed by the eyes, eye patches, nose and mouth.
- Fill in the ears, eye patches and nose with the black marker, then trace the mouth.
- Glue the head onto the top of the cardboard tube.
- Cut a long brown paper strip and several green paper leaves. Draw a few lines on the brown strip and attach the leaves with glue.
- Glue the bamboo shoot onto the center of the cardboard tube.
- Draw a 2″ long rectangle on black paper using a pencil and ruler. Add a semicircle to one end, cut out the shape, and use it as a template for 3 more black paper paws.
- Attach the paws in pairs: two beneath the head at the top of the cardboard tube and two at the lower end.
