Among the loveliest features of autumn are the many shades of leaves. Showcase those leaves with our Fall Leaf Suncatcher Craft! This lovely project combines nature’s colors with a central outline designed to look like pumpkins and apples.
For the main apple or pumpkin shape, we offer a Free Printable Suncatcher Outline. You can also create the outline from black cardstock to let the leaves stand out even more. The possibilities are endless! It’s a delightful activity and a wonderful way to encourage children to explore and admire the seasonal beauty outdoors.
Nature Leaf Fall Suncatcher Craft
Our nature suncatchers begin with our free printable suncatcher outline.
You’ll also need cardstock in orange, yellow, green, or red, along with clothespins, brown acrylic paint, clear packing tape, and scissors. Naturally, you’ll need plenty of bright fall leaves too! We created our suncatchers fairly early in autumn, so some leaves were a bit crisp, but they still worked beautifully.
Nature Suncatcher Craft Supplies Needed
- Suncatcher Template
- Cardstock – orange, yellow, red, green
- Brown acrylic paint
- Wooden clothespins
- Transparent packing tape
- Scissors
- Autumn leaves
Fall Leaf Suncatcher Craft Step by Step Directions
Begin by coating the wooden clothespins with brown paint.
Allow the paint to dry completely.
Next, print the suncatcher outline onto the cardstock color you selected. Cut around the outline and remove the inner circle as well. An adult might need to assist with this step.
After that, place 3 strips of wide packing tape across the open section of the suncatcher outline.
Collect your autumn leaves. Slightly crisp leaves will work just fine, too. Begin pressing the leaves onto the tape.
Once you’ve covered the area with enough leaves, place 3 additional strips of packing tape over them to seal everything inside.
Cut away any extra tape extending beyond the edges.
Then, use green cardstock to cut out a basic leaf shape.
Finish this charming fall nature suncatcher craft by fastening the leaf to the suncatcher with a clothespin.
