Who could turn down a bear hug? Of course, I’m not talking about an actual embrace from a bear. You likely wouldn’t want that. I mean the kind where giant arms wrap all the way around you in a big squeeze.
These bear hug cards are incredibly adorable. They open up to create a real hug, and you can add a Valentine’s Day note inside.
Share a Bear Hug with this DIY Valentine’s Day Card
For our Bear Hug Card Craft, gather our Bear Hug Card Template, cardstock in 2 shades of brown and black, a black sharpie, small-medium googly eyes, scissors, and a glue stick. You may also use a heart paper punch if desired.
Supplies Needed for the DIY Bear Hug Card Craft
- Bear Hug Template
- Cardstock – light brown, dark brown, black
- Black sharpie
- Small-medium googly eyes
- Heart paper punch (optional)
- Scissors
- Glue stick
Step-by-Step Directions for the Bear Hug Card
First, print the bear hug template and then cut out each piece.
Take a sheet of light brown cardstock and fold it in half. Align the top of the main head oval with the fold, trace around it, and cut it out.
At this point, you should have a card.
Using the same brown cardstock, cut out the ears. Cut the round muzzle shape from the darker brown cardstock.
Next, cut two long strips from the light brown cardstock, approximately 2” wide each.
Round off one end of each strip and draw toe marks with the black sharpie.
Join the two strips by gluing their straight ends together.
Attach them to the lower part of the card’s back.
Create 3 hearts from the black cardstock by cutting them out or using the heart paper punch.
Then, place 2 of the hearts in the middle of the ears with glue.
Attach the remaining heart to the muzzle. Use the black sharpie to add a mouth as well.
Secure the ears to the inside front of the card.
Attach the muzzle in position, too, and glue on the googly eyes.
To finish, cut a slit about halfway DOWN one arm, beyond the lines. Cut another slit about halfway UP the other arm.
Join the two arms by sliding them together through the slits.
Add your Valentine’s Day greeting inside the card. Then softly fold the arms downward to create the hugging effect.
