We’re not claiming it will carry enough candy for trick-or-treat night. For that occasion, if your children are anything like mine, they’ll probably need a huge bag—the larger, the better. This Halloween basket project is ideal for classroom celebrations, trunk-or-treat events, or visiting only a handful of homes. Its pocket can also hold other Halloween treasures, such as papers, stickers, and small trinkets.

Halloween Jack-O-Lantern Basket Paper Plate Craft

For these Jack-O-Lantern baskets, gather paper plates, orange acrylic paint, a black sharpie, ribbon, a stapler, and scissors.

Jack-O-Lantern Basket Craft Supplies Needed

  • Paper plates
  • Orange acrylic paint
  • Black sharpie
  • Ribbon
  • Stapler
  • Scissors

Halloween Basket Craft Step by Step Directions

Begin by painting the bottom surfaces of two paper plates orange. Flattening them while painting and crafting makes it simple to reshape them afterward.

Allow the paint to dry all the way.

After the paint has dried thoroughly, place the two plates together. Trim the upper section off the plates.

Afterward, use a black sharpie to sketch a jack-o-lantern face. As before, flattening the plate as you draw makes it easy to restore its shape afterward.

Once the face is finished, fasten the paper plates together with staples. Make sure the top remains open for the moment.

Trim a piece of Halloween ribbon to the length you prefer. Position it along the upper sides of the paper plate and staple it securely. We used two staples to ensure it stayed firmly attached.

Finally—and this is the most exciting part—fill your paper plate basket with all sorts of goodies! It can even double as a Halloween purse!
