What I especially love about vintage Christmas styling is its simplicity. When you have timeless pieces such as a modest wreath or a strand of dried orange slices, there’s no reason for loud or excessive decorations. Vintage decor helps you concentrate on the holiday’s deeper meaning instead of becoming distracted by commercialism.

As someone who enjoys vintage Christmas decor, I understand how thrilling it is to discover authentic ornaments for a growing collection. Here are a few successful ways to locate them:
Vintage & Flea Markets
Vintage fairs and flea markets can be excellent sources for finding Christmas ornaments and other seasonal decorations from the past. You never know which special items may appear! Search for stalls or areas dedicated to antique and vintage merchandise. At some flea markets, you may even find sellers focused specifically on vintage Christmas pieces.
While browsing vintage and flea markets, remember that older ornaments may not always be flawless. You could encounter scratches, chips, or other evidence of age and use. Still, those unique imperfections often give a collection extra personality and appeal.
Antique Shops
Visit nearby antique shops or vintage markets to find charming additions for your holiday decorating, such as old snowshoes, skis, and sleds.
How I Decorate with Vintage Treasures
When decorating for Christmas, old window frames are wonderful to use as well! Place a window frame on the wall and arrange a garland across its top.
You can also use a window frame as an ideal backdrop for a lovely Christmas wreath, such as this DIY jingle bell wreath.
For a rustic farmhouse-style Christmas display, use a vintage wooden crate with shelves to showcase pinecones and wooden ornaments.
Antique mirrors bring personality to your walls. The weathered patina on this mirror is something a new piece simply cannot replicate. Mirrors also make beautiful spots for hanging a greenery swag at Christmas.
For this display, I hung a cedar swag and placed 2 large pinecones on top ( I hot glued the end of a wide burlap ribbon to each cone for hanging).
DIY Vintage Christmas Ornaments

Dining Table Arrangements
Thrift shops are an excellent place to discover unique vases. For this Christmas tablescape, I repurposed a thrifted vase to design a centerpiece with a nostalgic atmosphere, combining fresh greenery, baby’s breath, frosted pinecones, and branches. I finished it by fastening a strip of distressed velvet ribbon with a dried orange.
Christmas Entryway Table
I combined thrift shop treasures with antique accents on my petite entryway table to create a warm, inviting appearance.
One easy way to embellish old books is by wrapping a ribbon around them. I’m especially fond of the distressed velvet ribbon from Hobby Lobby. It’s affordable as well (found in the fabric department)! A pheasant feather and dried flower contribute even more antique appeal.
A petite secondhand iron urn packed with feathers and encircled by a cedar sprig lends an old-fashioned elegance, and the urn cost me only $2.
Bedroom
This aged cabinet was a $15 bargain that needed plenty of work, but I adored its original drawer pulls and could see its possibilities! I refreshed it with brown and tan chalk paint to give it a new appearance.
A thrifted silver tray works wonderfully for arranging a modest Christmas vignette with glass trees, pinecones, and an ivy plant for a hint of greenery.
Outdoor Decorations
Vintage and secondhand ornaments can likewise bring festive spirit to your outdoor areas. Try decorating your porch or yard with old sleds, skates, or even a vintage Christmas tree.
For a timeless arrangement, place a swag of fresh greenery and bells secured with Christmas ribbon across the front of a sled.
Old-fashioned buckets and pails serve as charming planters for small trees on your porch.
Using classic Christmas hues is another method for giving your holiday decorations a vintage atmosphere. Red and green have remained traditional Christmas shades for generations, and they never become outdated.
This year, make time to visit a nearby antique store or thrift shop and search for distinctive pieces that will give your home a welcoming, comfortable feeling. You’ll not only develop a unique style of your own, but you’ll likely keep more money in your pocket by buying pre-owned items!
