This sunny summer art project is an enjoyable way to escape the heat and makes a wonderful craft for children of every age. It’s also a playful opportunity to use paint. Simply collect a few cardboard rolls and acrylic paints, then start creating!
Stamped Cardboard Roll Sun Craft
For this sun project, gather toilet paper size cardboard rolls, acrylic paint in yellow and orange, plus a paintbrush, white cardstock, small googly eyes, a black marker, and scissors.

- Cardboard tubes
- Acrylic paint – yellow, orange
- White cardstock
- Paintbrush
- Small googly eyes
- Black marker

Cardboard Roll Sun Craft Step by Step Directions
Start by gathering toilet paper size cardboard rolls. Use one roll for each paint color.
Around the lower portion of each roll, make evenly spaced cuts extending about halfway up.
Carefully fold the cut sections outward until they are nearly flat against a surface. Do the same with a second cardboard roll.
On a paper plate, place a generous circle of yellow paint. Spread the paint evenly with a paintbrush if needed.
Next, dip the toilet paper roll into the paint. To coat every strip completely, gently press the end of a paintbrush into the paint. Keep doing this until the strips have an even layer.
Place the paint-covered toilet paper roll onto the white cardstock and press it down. To help create a clear print, use the paintbrush end to push each strip firmly onto the paper.
Afterward, carefully lift the toilet paper roll from the cardstock and put it aside.
Using the second toilet paper roll, repeat the same process with the orange paint.
Position the orange-painted toilet paper roll over the yellow stamped sun and press it onto the paper. Gently lift it away.
To complete the face, draw a mouth in the sun’s center and attach two googly eyes with glue.
